Real Madrid Forward Has Tested Positive To Coronavirus.

Real Madrid has announced that forward Mariano Diaz has tested positive for coronavirus.

The news has some what caused pandemonium in Real Madrid plans as they prepare to play Manchester City at the Etihad stadium on August 7 for their second-leg last-16 Champions League fixture.

A statement from the club's website reads;

“After the COVID-19 tests carried out individually on our first football team yesterday by the Real Madrid Medical Services, our player Mariano has given a positive result.

“The player is in perfect health and complying with the sanitary isolation protocol at home.”

Mariano '26' will now have to undertake a two-week quarantine period, which will rule him out of the game against Pep Guardiola's side. 

The Los Blancos are crowned LaLiga champions this season, finishing five points clear of biggest rivals Barcelona.

Matches were played and completed behind closed doors and under strict set of protocols since the return of the La Liga in June to ensure the season could be concluded amids the coronavirus pandemic.

Mariano who played as a youth for Real Madrid returned to the club from Lyon in August 2018, and has made only seven appearances this campaign, five of them as a substitute in LaLiga and s oring just one goal.

He has never appeared Zinedine Zidane Champions League matchday squad.

Real Madrid will also be without captain Sergio Ramos who is suspended due to the red card he received in the first-leg at the Bernabeu last February, as they look to overturn a 2-1 defeat.

They will face either Juventus or Lyon in the quater-final in Lisbon should they advance past Man City.
