PSG Wins A Record 13th Coupe de France, But Looses star man Mbappe On Injury.

Paris Saint-Germain have won a record-extending 13th Coupe de France (French Cup), following a 1-0 victory against 10-man Saint-Ètienne on Friday night.

The competitive match marked the return of professional football in France after a four-month suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Brazilian star Neymar scored the only goal on a rebound through Mbappe's shot which was blocked by goalkeeper Jessy Moulin, in the 14 minute of the match to defeat Saint-Étienne in front of 5,000 fans who were allowed to watch the game on strictshealth protocol at the State de France.

PSG triumph was overshadowed by Kylian Mbappé who limped off the pitch with an ankle injury after being tackled dangerously by St-Étienne captain Loïc Perrin in the 26th minute.

The attack on Mbappé, led to angry protests and tussles between both sides, with the French striker leaving the field in tears and was replaced by Pablo Sarabia afterwards.

After VAR review, the 34-year-old Perrin who was playing his last match for Saint-Etienne after a 17-year spell, was sent off which forced his team to play the rest of the match with 10-men.

Mbappé later returned to the touchline on crutches and wearing a protective sleeve on his right ankle. The 21-year-old stayed for the trophy presentation, and was seen with French president, Emmanuel Macron who attended the match wearing a face mask.

It went crack," Mbappe was heard telling Macron of his injury during the trophy ceremony. Macron then asked whether anything was broken and Mbappe said "No, I don't think so."

PSG manager Thomas Tuchel whoose side lost last year's final to Stade Rennes on penalties said after the match;

"Everyone is worried about Mbappe. Everyone who saw the foul is worried. Of course, I'm worried,"

"We have to be patient because we don't have any news. I think he will undergo tests tonight," Tuchel added.

"We won the final and that is what matters".

This would be the second trophy that Thomas Tuchel's men would be clincing this season, after been crowned champions of the French Ligue 1 in April as the league became one of the five big leagues in Europe to end the 2019-20 campaign prematurely due to the global COVID_19 outbreak.

CloudNine Sports understands that the Parisian side are still on cause to winning a domestic treble, with the 2019/20 Coupe de la Ligue final set to take place next week Friday 31 July at the same venue.

They are still contenders for the Champions League title having been drawn to play Italian club side Atalanta at the quater-final in 19 days time.
