Nemanja Matic Agrees To A Contract Extension With Man United Until 2023
Nemanja Matic has signed a three-years contract extension until June 2023.
Gianluca Di Marzio,who is a renowned Italian journalist, reports that the United midfielder, has agreed to extend his contract by a further two years which will keeps him at Old Trafford until the end of the 2022/23 season.
The Serbian international has been involved in so many transfer rumours in the past to leave the Theatre of Dreams with the SerieA speculated to be a likely destination for the 31-year-old.
CloudNine Sports had reported earlier in March, that Manchester United triggered the one-year contract option for Nemanja Matic whoose contract was due to expire at the end of this season, so as not to loose him on a free transfer, but the United board have now gone a step further.
Matic joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2017 from Chelsea, signing a three-year deal in the process to re-unite with his former boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
The deal is also a break from United’s normal policy for players over 30, who are usually renewed on an annual basis.
Matic has been in rejuvenated form of late and has proven his critics wrong with his recent performance especially since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also opted for the experienced Matic ahead of Fred and Scott McTominay as his first chioce defensive midfielder in recent two games now, where Pogba and Bruno have started together, performing impeccably well in both.
Nemanja Matic scored his first goal for United this season since his last on Boxing Day 2018.
The goal came in the 1-0 league cup victory against Manchester City, and which was his fourth goal for United across all competitions. He has so far made 27 appearances across all competitions this season.
Nemanja Matic speaking to the club media after the confirmation of his new contract said:
“I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club.
“As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honour".
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Matic contract extension said:
“I am delighted that Nemanja has signed a new contract, I know his experience, professionalism and leadership will be invaluable to this young talented group.
“We have great strength in midfield and Nemanja’s attributes are a key part of that. Nemanja has been here for three seasons now and really understands the values of playing for Manchester United.
“He remains hugely ambitious and determined which will be vital as we look to achieve our aims over the coming years.”
