Barcelona Have Been Angered With Arthur Melo's Decision Not To Play For The Club Again, And Have Opened Legal Actions Against The Midfielder.
Barcelona have been angered by Arthur Melo's decision not to return to training, and has opened a legal file against midfielder.
The 23-year-old Brazilian has refused to join the rest of the Barcelona squad in training which began earlier this week (Monday), as they prepare for the resumption of the Champions League next month.
Arthur had travelled to Ibiza following the conclusion of the La Liga season on July 19, and from there he travelled back to his native Brazil, paying deaf ears to warning which would involve serious consequences if he failed to return to the Catalan club.
From a distance, he has made a request for his contract to be terminated, having agreed to join Italian gaints Juventus for £66million in June but was to remain a Barca player until the end of the 2019/20 season.
Due to the disruption of football activities caused by coronavirus, the season was extended to end in August after the European competitions.
According to Marca, the relationship between Arthur and Barcelona will end badly, and there is no reconciliation possible.
The club is not willing to give an inch on Arthur's request to join his new teammates at Juventus before the season is over, as the player abandoned the culé discipline, despite cutting a deal for the midfielder to stay at the Nou Camp until the end of the season.
His actions is now viewed as an act of rebellion and indiscipline by the club.
Barcelona has futherly opened legal proceedings against Arthur, whom they believe has breach his contract with club, as they will not comply to negotiate the termination of his contract.
Arthur who joined Barca in July 2018 from his hometown club Grêmio, feels that he has been mistreated by the Catalan club, and remains firm in his decision not to return, as there is no sense for him to continue playing for Quique Setien's team.
The 2019 Copa America winner has made 72 appearances for Barca and scored 4 goals. He was part of the team that won the La Liga title in 2018-19 season and also won the Supercopa de Espana in 2018.
Barcelona are set to host Napoli in the second-leg last-16 Champions League tie on August 8.
They would be without midfielder Arturo Vidal who received a red card following a 1-1 result from the first-leg in Italy last February.
The winner of the tie will play either Bayern Munich or Chelsea in the quater-final in Lisbon.
