Odion Ighalo To Remain At Man United Until January 2021, Following A Loan Extension Agreement With Parent Club Shanghai Shenhua.
Manchester United have announced that they have reached an agreement with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua to extend the loan deal for Odion Ighalo until 31st January 2021.
The Nigerian striker who joined the Red Devils on deadline day of the Janary transfer window on a six-month loan, was initially due to end on Sunday 31st May but he will now remain with the Reds till next year January.
CloudNine Sports had earlier reported that Odion Ighalo had returned to training with the United squad after more than 2-months off due to the global health crisis and lockdown caused by coronavirus, which led to the suspension of the Premier League in March.
The 30-year-old achieved his childhood dreams, and became the first Nigerian and the seventh African to play at Old Trafford.
Due to the impact of the corona to virus pandemic, Ighalo has only been able to make 8 appearances for the club across all competitions and scoring four goals, which includes at least one strike in each of his three starts - against Club Brugge, Derby County (2) and LASK, as he builds an impressive start to life at the red side of Manchester.
Ighalo will now hope to pick up from where he left off, after winning United's Goal of the Month award for March with a stunning strike in the impressive Europa League 5-0 victory over Austrian club LASK.
That last-16, first-leg game at Linzer Stadion on Thursday 12 March was a sign of things to come, as it was played behind closed doors, which will also be the case for all remaining fixtures in 2019/20 season.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjear spoke on the outlook of Ighalo's loan deal last week via the clubs website:
“They [Shanghai Greenland Shenhua] have been great towards us, allowing him to play for his dream club. It’s been a dream for him and hopefully he can finish what he started and win a trophy with us.”
