Chelsea Have Emerged Top Contenders Ahead Of Liverpool For The Signing Of Timo Werner.

Chelsea have emerged top contenders, and agreed a deal in principle to sign Timo Werner from German club side RB Leipzig.

According to sources, the Blues have agreed to activate Timo Werner £49.4 million release clause which is set to expire on 15th June, and have offered him a five-year contract worth £200,000-a-week deal in principle to spice up their interest.

The 24-year-old striker whoose priority has been to play for a Champions League club has been linked with a move away from the bundesliga at the end of the season, and had choosen the Premier league as his next destination with interest from current league leaders Liverpool and Manchester United.

Chelsea moved ahead in the race to sign the Germany international, as Liverpool withdraws after failling to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig, and are umwilling to pay the release clause.

The deal is expected to be finalised in the coming days, as Chelsea believes they can lure Werner over to Stamford Bridge where he would get more game time compared to other rivals.

Werner is set to be a strong addition to Frank Lampard's team going forward next season, as they already bought Hakim Ziyech, who is joining from Ajax for £33 million on July 1, while Pedro and Willian are set to depart on free transfers this summer.

Timo Werner who joined RB Leipzig in 2016, has scored 31 goals and created 12 assist in 40 appearance for the club this season.
