Turkish Club Trabzonspor Has Terminated John Mikel Obi Contract For Refusing To Play Matches Amids The Coronavirus Pandemic.
Ex-Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel on Tuesday, has had his contract with Turkish football club Trabzonspor terminated by mutual consent.
The termination follows after CloudNine Sports team reported last Saturday that, the former Chelsea midfielder, had recently criticised the Turkish Super Lig's chiefs decision to continue playing matches despite the coronavirus outbreak and he doesn't feel okay with the situation.
The 32-year-old defensive midfielder, who has played a very crucial role in the clubs progress this season, refused to play for his team in their home game against Istanbul Basaksehir last Sunday, in which the match ended 1-1 at full-time.
His refusal prompted the management of the club to end his two-years contract, which was to run through till next summer May 31.

The club made the official statement via the official mobile app for public disclosure platform KAP;
Mikel joined Trabzonspor as a free agent in the summer of 2019, and has since then made 19 appearance for the club, inspiring them this season to be top of the Turkish Super Lig table at the moment.

"The professional football player agreement between our company and John Obi Mikel on 30.06.2019 start date 31.05.2021 has been mutually terminated.
"With a mutual termination agreement, the football player gave up all his forward-looking receivables."
