The Premier League, FA, Championship And WSL Have Reached An Agreement To Suspend All Football Leagues In England
The Premier League, FA Cup, Championship, and the Women Super League, have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England for two weeks due to the fear of the spread of coronavirus.
Following the unprecedented meeting held earlier on Friday 13th March, by the Premier League, the agreement was reached to suspend all footballing activities in England until 4th April, due to several reports that some Premier League clubs have members of staff, including players and coaches, that are currently displaying symptoms of the virus.
The Premier League released a statement saying;
"In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority."
"Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League's aim to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so."
Chief Executive of the Premier League Richard Masters also added:
"Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19.
Liverpool are currently comfortable leaders in the league standings with 82 points, 25 points clear off second place Manchester city who has 57 points.
Leicester City sits third with 53 points, Chelsea in fourth with 48 points and Manchester United in fifth, 3 points behind Chelsea in the top four.
At the international level, the FA has also announced that the two England friendlies due to be played at the end of March, against Denmark and Italy at Wembley, have been called off
In Europe, Uefa has announced the postponement of all pending fixtures in the Champions League and Europa League respectively to a yet to be decided date.
