The Copa America Has Been Postponed To 2021 As Announced By CONMEBOL.

The south American football governing body (CONMEBOL), have reached a decision to postpone the 2020 Copa America by 12 months.

The decision came in line with the coronavirus pandemic, and following the announcement of UEFA who have also postponed the Euro 2020 tournament to next year, so as to allow several leagues which has been suspended, be able to completes it's season.

The 47th edition of the tournament, which was meant to commence by joint host Argentina and Colombia on 12 June, will now be played from 11th June to 11th July, 2021.

An official statement by CONMEBOL says;
"Due to the worldwide evolution of the coronavirus, and with the aim of safeguarding the health of South American football, we have decided to postpone the celebration of the 2020 Copa America.

President of the UEFA "Aleksander Ceferin" have expressed his gratitude to the CONMEBOL chief Alejandro Dominguez for their decision, stating:
"I will also like to thank Alejandro Dominguez and CONMEBOL, who have agreed to move CONMEBOL's 2020 Copa America in order to follow the recommendations issued by the international public health organisations to enact extreme measures and as a result of EURO 2020 being postponed. This means that clubs and leagues in Europe will have as little disruption as possible in the availability of their players. These joint efforts and especially this coordinated and responsible decision, are deeply appreciated by the whole European football community."
