Lionel Messi And The Entire Barcelona Team, Have Agreed To A Reduction Of Their Salaries, Amids The Coronavirus Outbreak.
Barcelona's board of directors, members of its professional sports teams and most of the basketball team have reached an agreement to reduce their salaries, during this period of the state of alarm caused by the Coronavirus outbreak.
With the on-going Covid_19 pandemic, which led to the suspension of all football activities across major countries in Europe, some of the clubs such as Juvemtus, Bayern Munich, Borrusia Dortmund, Atletico Moadrid have reached an agreement with their players and staff, to reduce their wages during this period of self isolation.
Club captain Lionel Messi and the Barcelona first-team players will now take a 70% pay cut from their wages, in other to ensure that the club staff members and employees will have their wages covered.
The Argentine and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, disclosed the information, via his official Instagram handle;
"Much has been written and said about the first team of FC Barcelona in regards to the salaries of the players during this period of a state of alarm. Coronavirus."
"First of all, I want to make it clear, that we were always ready to receive a pay-cut from our salaries, because we fully understand that this is an exceptional situation and we as players, are always eager to help the club when asked."
"The move was delayed, because the priority was to to find solutions to help the club and to see who the most affected were during this situation.
Barcelona last game before the supension of football activities in Spain, was against Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou on 7th March, with Lionel Messi getting the only goal in the 81st minute of the match after converting a penalty kick.
The Catalona side currently tops the La Liga table with 58 points, and 2 points above rivals Real Madrid who had earlier topped the table with a point after the famous 2-0 win in the el-clasico on 1st March.
