Former American Boxer "Floyd Mayweather" Declares His Interest In Buying Newcastle United Football Club.
Former American boxer Floyd Mayweather (Money), has indicated his interest in buying English Premier League club Newcastle United.
The undefeated boxer who has won all his 50 career fights, and 20 by knockouts was recently hosted at the O2 City Hall in Newcastle on Sunday, as he sat down for a Question and Answer segment, He made his opinion known about buying the Club currently owned by British billionaire Mike Ashley.
In his words, told the moderator when asked if he was interested in buying Newcastle ;
"In the U.S. we call it soccer, but the Newcastle football team is an unbelievable team." "It's a hell of a team.
"If the people want me to buy the Newcastle team, let me know,"
"I love Newcastle. Those guys like to party as hard as any city I have been to anywhere in the world. I met some of the players last year - and they are good guys. I am always open to new business opportunities and I love all sports, but I invest with my head not my heart.
"Investing with your heart is the quickest way to lose money. But if somebody put together a business plan and my people looking over it and went 'Floyd that can make money' then I would invest. Soccer might not be my game but I've got connections everywhere"... Says the 43-year-old, who is well known for spending money.
Mike Ashley, who has reportedly been trying to sell the club for the last few years, after several reports that he wanted to sell the club to a Saudi Arabian buyer in January but talks of that seem to have died since.
According to TMZ, he is worth anywhere between $560 million and $1 billion, whereas current Newcastle owner Ashley is reportedly worth $3.2 billion.
Newcastle United is currently been managed by Steve Bruce, and are currently looking forward to aviod been relegated to the Championship next season, as they sits 13th place in the league standings with 35 points after 29 matches.
The Magpies will need at least 5 more points in the remaining 9 matches to go this season to guarantee their safety in the Premier League.
