Liverpool Youth Team Led by Critchley is set to battle Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup replay tie.

Liverpool U-23 boss Neil Critchley, is set to lead a youthful team for the second time this season, for their FA Cup replay fixtures with Shrewsbury Town later today at Anfield.

Critchley would be at the dugout to replace Liverpools first team manager Jürgen Klopp.

Klopp was in charge of the youthteam, when Liverpool were held to a 2-2 shocking draw in their FA Cup fourth round tie against Shrewsbury side at New Meadow staduim. 

Jurgen Klopp said afterwards that he would play no senior team players because they need rest and would ask the club's reserve manager Neil Critchley to take the team in the replay as he would also prioritise the scheduled winter break.

Neil Critchley speaking via the club's website, on taking charge of a first team fixture for a second time this season and what it means to him;

Incredible, really. I never thought it would happen once, let alone twice. I’m obviously really looking forward to what hopefully will be a special night. The young players are going to get quite a unique opportunity and hopefully they go and play, in many ways, how we played against Aston Villa [in the Carabao Cup]; in a similar way but hopefully we can make more of a game of it. If the players play how I know they can play then I’m sure the support we have on the night will be right behind us. Hopefully we can make it a great night for everyone.

The 41-year-old Critchley also added that Klopp had promised to give him and the players all the support they need. Klopp would be speaking to him via phone calls at intervals during the game.

Meanwhile, CloudNine Sports had earlier reported that, the U-23 manager Neil Critchley, has earlier this season overseen the youngsters at the touchline, when they played in the Carabao Cup quater-final fixture away to Aston Villa last December which Aston Villa  won the game 5-0.

The winner of the tie will move on to the fifth round of the FA Cup to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge come 5th March.
