Joseph Yobo Has Been Appionted As The New Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The Nigeria football federation (NFF) on Wednesday, appoints former Super Eagles defender and captain, Joseph Yobo as the new Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles.
Yobo will now replace the 50-year-old former Rivers United and Rangers international football club of Nigeria coach Imama Amapakabo.
Imama is currently the Head Coach of the Nigeria U-23 national team (Olympic Eagles).
39-year-old Yobo will work together with the Head Coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr, alongside other technical crews in preparations for the CAF FIFA 2022 World cup qualifiers when it begins from 4th September 2019- 16th November 2021, together with the AFCON 2021 qualifiers in Cameroon when it resumes in March.
The former Everton, Fenerbahçe and Norwich City player, featured in 3 World Cup tournaments (2002, 2010 and 2014) and 6 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) tournaments (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013) with the Super Eagles, He became the first Nigerian to get 100 international Caps, scoring 7 goals since after his debut in an AFCON qualifying match away to Zambia in April 2001.
Yobo led the Super Eagles under the late coach Stephen Keshi to lift the 2013 African Cup of Nations trophy hosted in South Africa, after a 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso at the finals.
He later announced his retirement from the national team immediately after the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil, where they crashed out in the round of 16 after a 2-0 defeat to France.
