Senegalese and Liverpool forward "Sadio Mane" was named 2019 CAF African Player of the Year at the award ceremony which went down on Tuesday, 7th January 2020 at the Albatross Citadel Sahl Hasheesh, in Hurghada, Egypt.

The 27-year old emerge winner with 477 votes ahead of his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian who won the award back-to-back the last two years with 325 votes, and Algerian/ Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez, who has also won the award once in 2016 with 267 votes.

Sadio Mane on being crowned the King of African Football of the Year 2019: 

"It's a great day for me and for my career. I would like to thank all of the Senegalese people who supported me during my journey.

"I also thank Liverpool Football Club, my team mates, the staff and everybody there...I am feeling happy because it's a big day for me. They will be glad watching me winning this award, especially the pe toople in my village." 🇸🇳

Mane had a stunning 2019, scoring a total of 34 goals and created 12 assists in 61 appearances, taking Senegal to the finals of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt. He also won the Premier League Golden Boot, Uefa Champions League, Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup and finished fourth in the 2019 Ballon D'Or list.

Super Falcons’ Captain and Barcelona forward "Asisat Oshoala" was named as the 2019 African Women’s Player of the Year.

The 25-year-old is being crowned the Queen of African female football for the fourth time, having won it in 2014, 2016, 2017 and now 2019, equalling compatriot Perpetua Nwkocha record as highest holder of the award.

She emerged winner with 351 votes ahead of second place Cameroonian forward Ajara Nchout with 321 votes and South Africa's Thembi Kgatlana with 247 votes in third.

Asisat Oshoala expressed her gratitude via her Twitter handle saying:
