Samuel Eto'o Blast Africans For Letting Down Sadio Mane At The 2019 Ballon D'or.

The 38-year-old blames Africans for letting down Sadio Mane who scored 54 goals for both club and country this year, after voting against him winning the Ballon D'or.

The Cameroon legend believes that if Africans had voted in unism for the Liverpool forward, he won't have been fourth on the list but rather, would have emerged the winner ahead of Lionel Messi who won the award, Virgil Van Dijk who came second and Cristiano Ronaldo on third.

Samuel Eto'o on the award after the outcries by Africans footballing community;

"If Sadio Mane won it and was on the podium, no one was going to complain because he deserves it and has been doing well and he had the best season,” Eto’o said as per IOL.

“Messi (Lionel) won because all the South Americans voted for him. I think the Europeans also voted for Virgil Van Dijk hence he was the runner-up.”

Eto’o blamed African voters for snubbing Mane as former Liberia captain George Weah remains the only African to have won the award.

“Africans didn’t vote for Mane. That’s the big problem. African people have problems with other African people."

“We, as Africans, are letting ourselves down. We need to unite if we are serious about ending the dominance of the Europeans and the South Americans in the race to be crowned the best players in the world.”

The four times African Footballer of the year, also postulates that African footballers have improved immensely in the game, and have lots of big players you can boast of at the moment, as he believes that the decision for who becomes the next African Footballer of the year is going to be a tough one, but any one who wins it is the best.

 Liverpool's duo, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane, alongside, Arsenal forward Aubamenyang, Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez and Ajax goal keeper Idriss Onana are all top contenders for the award come January 2020 in Hurghada, Egypt.
