The 60-year-old Italian despite qualifying Napoli to the knock out stage of the Champions league with 12 points and one point below fellow group E leaders Liverpool, after their final group match victory at home to Belgian side Genk, ending a nine-match winless streak.
The former Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich manager was said to have lost faith in the Napoli players, and was sacked after a poor round of form with the club, who currently seats in seventh in the Serie A table, 17 points below league leaders Inter Milan, after 15 matches.
A statement realsed by the Napoli board read;
