Ashleigh Barty wins first Grand Slam Singles Title, after emerging champion at the 2019 French Open.

A new champion emerged at the 2019 French Open, as Eight seed Ashleigh Barty ended Autralia's 46-year wait for a French Open singles title, and wins her first Grand Slam title after cruising past World number 38 Marketa Vondrousova in a straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in a match that lasted only 70 minutes.


After becoming the first Autralian winner at the Roland Garros,since Margaret Court in 1973, Ashleigh Barty told the crowd after the match, "It's unbelievable, I am a little bit speechless. I have played a perfect match today, I am so proud of myself and my team".

Barty said to young teenager Marketa, "It's been an incredible two weeks. Your whole season has been brilliant. No doubt you will be in Grand Slam finals in the future".

"To the French federation and sponsors - incredible changes to Roland Garros. You fans make this tournament so special. You're so passionate and enthusiastic. It's great playing tennis on these beautiful courts.

"To my team, thanks for sticking with me. It's been such a journey the past three years - let's celebrate tonight."


The 23-year-old is set to become the second in the world behind Japanese young star Naomi Osaka when the latest rankings are released next week.

Marketa Vondrousova saw her dreams to become the first teenage Grand Slam Champion since Maria Sharapova who emerged champion at the US Open in 2006 come to jeopardy. In her speech after the trophy presentation, first extends her greetings to her mum.

Marketa went on to congratulate Ashleigh, "I think she just gave me a lesson today so thank you.It was a feat that almost never was, since Barty quit tennis five years ago -- weighed down by expectations following a stellar junior career -- and even played professional cricket before returning in 2016.

"I don't even know if I'd be sitting here talking to you if I was playing tennis if I didn't step away," she said.

"It's obviously a part of my life that I needed to deal with, and I feel like it was the best decision that I made at the time, and it was an even better one coming back."

"Even though I didn't get the win today, I enjoyed my time here and am happy with everything that happened here. Added the 19-year-old.

"Thanks to my team. You work really hard and it's amazing what we did here. I'm really grateful for you and you're so special to me."
