UEFA Appionts Referee "DAMIR SKOMINA" In Charge Of The Champions League Final In Madrid
UEFA's referees committee have appointed the 42-year-Old Slovenian referee, Damir Skomina to be the man at the helm of affairs in the Champions League All English Final clash between Tottenham and Liverpool in the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Madrid on 1 June.
Damir Skomina, will be assisted by fellow citizens Jure Praprotnik and Robert Vukan. The fourth official will be the Spaniard Antonio Mateu Lahoz who officiated the first leg game between Tottenham and Ajax in the Semi-final of the Champion League.
The Slovenian, who made history by overturning the first ever Champions League goal from Ajax using the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Though having been the fourth official at the 2013 Champions League final in Wembley where Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1. He is not new to officiating European finals.
Damir Skomina was the man in charge of the May 2017 Europa League final between English club side Manchester United and Dutch side Ajax in the Friends Arena stadium in Sweden, and Manchester United emerge champions after defeating Ajax 2-0 in full time. He also officiated the Atletico Madrid 4-1 victory over Chelsea at the August 2012 Uefa Super Cup Final in Stade Louis II in Monaco.
Damir Skomina who has already officiated four Champion League match this season, one of which was the round of 16 return leg fixture where Manchester United made a dramatic comeback win against PSG in Paris, he also awarded a late controversial penalty for Manchester United in that match, as Rashford strike ended the match 3-0 and sent United to the Quarter-final after a 3-2 aggregate scoreline. He is also not new to officiating Liverpool games, as he was in charge of the Liverpool and Napoli last group fixture in the Champions League and Liverpool won the match 1-0 to qualify for the knock-out stage.
