Two Times Winner Simona Halep Is Set To Face Fellow Clay Court Specialist Kiki Bertens In The Madrid Open Final

The 27-year-old Romanian professional tennis player Simona Halep has reached her fourth career Madrid Open Final on Friday after deafeating 18th-ranked Switzerland Professional tennis player Belinda Bencic 6-2 6-7 (2-7) 6-0.

The current world number 3 Simona Halep on Sunday will face the Dutch professional tennis player (27), Kiki Bertens currently ranked World number 7 and highly regarded as a clay court specailist after overcoming 8th-ranked American professional tennis player Sloane Stephens 6-2 7-5.

Simona Halep is set to overtake the Japanese and current world number 1 Naomi Osaka at the top if she wins the title. She has only won the title twice in 2016 and in 2017 after deafeating French Kristina Mladenovic 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 in the final.



While on the other hand, Kiki Bertens who lost to Czech Petra Kvitova in last year's final, has yet to drop a set in Madrid, as she beat Japan's Naomi Osaka in the quarter-finals.
Simona Halep currently leads Kiki Bertens in the head-to-head record 3-2.

Simona Halep after the match says, "It's a wonderful feeling to be back in the final of this special tournament, I am really grateful playing here. In the second set in that tie breaker, I lost control of it but then I just calmed down and told myself I had to start the match again."

"I started playing smarter, opened the court more and became more aggressive." Halep added.

Kiki Bertens says ahead of the final clash “I feel unbelievable of course, it’s great to be in the final and I’m happy to finish it in two sets."

“It’s going to be really tough against Simona Halep, we played each other in the past so I know it will be a tough battle, but I’m ready for it, it's just one more push here and I would be there.”
